Fort Bend County Social Services and volunteers served 661 children during its 2011 Back-to-School Walk with Pride Shoe Program on August 14. Through the program, children of low income families can register to receive a free pair of shoes from select Payless Shoe Source stores.
Each eligible child received one-on-one attention from a volunteer throughout the shoe selection process, and left with a new pair of shoes they could be proud of on the first day of school. Sixty gift cards were distributed to students over the age of 16.
A big thank you goes out to all volunteers: Sugar Land Exchange Club, Lone Star Exchange Club, Susan Rodriguez, and Amanda Chacon. Also a big thanks to this year’s contributors.
Over 900 students applied to receive a free pair of shoes, but not all were able to receive shoes due to lack of funds. To donate for next year’s Walk with Pride Shoe Program contact Fort Bend County Social Services Office, 281-342-7300, 4520 Reading Road, Suite A, Rosenberg, TX.
