FYI: PROUD’S FIRST BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT: In 1991 PROUD was beginning its first year of organization. Jo Burnett (founder and organizer of PROUD) wanted to fill the Glenn Lakes esplanade with trees since this was a major street in Quail Valley. (Proud had no membership dues at that time.) Therefore, Jo solicited contributions from individuals and organizations. Many QV residents contributed. Because there was no irrigation, Jo asked Glenn Lakes residents to volunteer their water and to also be responsible, in some cases, for watering the trees in the esplanade in front of their houses. (The FUND later installed an irrigation system and also added trees to complete the project.)

STAY ALERT! Beware of solicitors knocking on your door. With Spring around the corner, they can use a “front”, such as, pulling a trailer of mulch. If home, they ask if you want mulch. If no one answers they can start spreading the mulch and hope that they will appear to be legit if neighbors notice their presence. In the “cover” of the back yard they can break in and take items that can be transported via wheelbarrow to their vehicle.

PREVENTION? An alarm that is activated and monitored. A dog that is outside and barks. Neighbors who periodically look out front windows and question what they think is suspicious. If the home owner is not home when you call them, then check with a next door neighbor, or call 911 with a description of the vehicle. By pretending to check your mail box for mail you can easily write down the license number. Know your neighbors who work outside the home. Keep a watch on their homes during the day.
