Public surveillance video has led to the arrest of several men at the AMC Theater and provided important evidence in a recent attack of a woman in her garage.

Sugar Land police responded to a report of several men breaking into cars at the AMC Theater, 3301 Town Center Blvd., on Jan. 24 at 11:41 p.m. Based on witness descriptions, two cars were quickly located, and six men were taken into custody.

A review of surveillance video at AMC Theater led to charges of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (BMV) and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity against Deavian Maurice Lockhart, 21, of Houston; Broderick Bernard Johnson, 17, of Missouri City; Michael Rashad Craig, 18, of Houston; Willie Deaon Rydolph, 17, of Houston; Dimarkus Leon Mitchell, 17, of Missouri City; and Jalmal D. Mckenzie, 17, of Houston.

“This incident illustrates the importance of citizens being aware of their surroundings and immediately reporting suspicious activity to police,” said Sgt. Mike Richards, of SLPD’s BMV Task Force. “It also shows the value of surveillance cameras as an investigative tool.”

SLPD is partnering with retail districts and neighborhoods to encourage the use cameras for security purposes.

Cameras at the entrance of the Eldridge Lakes Subdivision recently provided detectives with images of a vehicle driven by several men who attacked a woman in her garage.

On Jan. 22 at 10 p.m., a 60-year-old woman was confronted by three black men in her garage. As she was exiting her vehicle, the men displayed a handgun and took her purse and cellular phone. The woman, who was not injured, told police she was followed home by a red car. A review of surveillance cameras purchased by the homeowners’ association showed a newer model, red Chevrolet Cavalier following the woman’s car and leaving the subdivision shortly after the robbery.

The men were between 5 feet 11 to 6 feet tall and wore black clothing and black ski masks covering their faces.
