Just minutes after midnight Missouri City Police were dispatched to an alarm call that resulted in a homicide investigation.
At 12:45 a.m., Thursday morning, March 4, Missouri City police arrived at a home in the 7800 block of Saintes Circle in the Fonmeadow subdivision. They were called to the home to investigate an alarm call that was actually a home invasion that turned into a homicide.
As officers responded, they learned that an unknown man had gotten into the home on and was shooting at the residents. Missouri City Police Captain John Bailey said the intruder entered the residence through an unlocked living room window and began shooting at the victim, Herman E. Roberts, 30, and his girlfriend, as they watched television from the sofa.
According to Captain Bailey, Herman Roberts was shot more than once. Although Roberts was suffering from multiple gunshot injuries he tried to get to his own weapon in another area of the home. He collapsed and died before he could get to it. His girlfriend was not physically injured. The intruder was described as an unknown male wearing all black clothing. He also wore a black mask over his face.
On the heels of the first responders, the second wave of police officers that arrived in the neighborhood saturated the area looking for someone matching the description of the suspect. They found a man they initially believed was “a person of interest” in the case. Bailey said, “After interviewing the “person of interest” it was determined that he was not involved in the incident.” He was however, arrested for an unrelated narcotics violation, said Bailey.
At press time, Missouri City police are still investigating the homicide. Public records indicate that the victim had a clear background and was an entrepreneur in the entertainment business. He had family in California.
