Richmond police team with Fort Bend Seniors

By LeaAnne Klentzman

To bring attention to National Volunteer Week the Richmond police held a press conference last Friday reiterating their commitment to volunteerism and encouraging others to lend a helping hand.

Richmond Police Chief Bill Whitworth announced his department’s commitment to community service and their continued commitment to Meals on Wheels, and the partnership with Fort Bend Seniors.

Since November of 2007, uniformed Richmond police officers have been delivering Meals on Wheels to local senior citizens. Through this contact officers are able to conduct daily welfare checks on our senior citizens without negative implications to their self-esteem said the Chief. Richmond police are asking anyone who is interested in sharing the celebration of history provided by local seniors and the rewards of helping others to join them in their efforts to serve the community.

National Volunteer Week is April 27 – May 3, 2008, but their service to the community will continue.
