Fort Bend Friends and Neighbors awarded $1,000 scholarships to seven Fort Bend County students at their Lazy Days of Summer luncheon, May 20, 2010 at Safari Texas.
What makes this scholarship program unique is that it provides assistance for students who are planning to attend college in our local area and need financial aid to help achieve that goal. Funds for the scholarships are raised through the annual silent auction and donations. This year the Bookworms club donated the proceeds from author Philippa Gregory’s visit to Sugar Land to the fund.
Scholarships were presented by president Sandra Boyd to Araceli Ovalle, Kempner High School graduate attending HCC-Stafford; Wendy Navarro, Lamar Consolidated High School graduate attending WCJC-Richmond; Rori Hutcheson, Terry High School graduate, 2009, attending WCJC-Richmond; Si Mei Guo, Stafford High School graduate, attending HCC-Stafford; Logan Danna, Travis High School graduate, attending WCJC; Hoa Le Au, Stafford High School graduate, attending HCC-Stafford, Khendra Felton, Needville High School graduate, attending WCJC-Richmond.
