Girl Scout Troop 724 at Aquarena Center in San Marcos view Century Plant in bloom. Shown (L-R): Caitlin Kuykendall, Julianna Russ, Triona Swanson, Hannah Fasching, Kirtana Jasti, and Kalpana Vaidya |
Girl Scout Troop 724 (Rainbow Stars Service Unit) recently went on a trip to San Marcos, Texas. As part of their trip, they spend the afternoon at Aquarena Center. To their surprise, that weekend the Century Plant was getting ready to bloom. It blooms only once in their life, the blooming spike is so large and grows so fast that it saps all the resources of the plant, which then dies. The girls are pictured in front of the plant. Also on this weekend trip, the girls enjoyed a glass-bottom boat ride, a trip to a glass blowing factory, and the chance to see a dry, A-frame cave formed along one of the many faults within the Balcones Fault Zone and learn about the Edwards Aquifer.
If you are interested in your daughter being able to participate in trips like this, please come to Girl Scout Recruitment Night - Tuesday, September 14, at 7:00 pm, at Parkway United and join the fun. Girl Scouting in New Territory needs you
