At press time the hunt is still on for escaped Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate Arcade Comeaux, who overpowered transport guards while traveling from one prison unit to another. Comeaux was serving time for offenses committed in Fort Bend County.
TDCJ officials said Monday afternoon that Comeaux was being transferred from a prison unit in Huntsville to one in Beaumont. He reportedly overpowered the guards near Conroe when he produced a gun believed to have been secreted in his wheel chair. Although he took over the transport, they continued the trip to Beaumont, stopping short of the prison unit. Beaumont officials said Monday they were unaware of any ties Comeaux had to their area.
Arcade Joseph Comeaux was serving life sentences; two of which he garnered in Fort Bend County. According to reports, in July of 1999 he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after attacking his wife and an bystander at the Jester III prison unit near Sugar Land with a home made ‘shank’. According to county documents, he entered a plea of guilty in March of 2003 on both charges and was sentenced to life which was “stacked” on a parole violation sentence from Brazos County. The 49 year old Comeaux has a criminal history that travels back to 1978.
Along with aggravated assault, Comeaux has been convicted of aggravated sexual assault, and burglary with the intent to assault. He has been accused of numerous other crimes. During a time when he was paroled from prison, Comeaux resided in the Mission Bend area.
