FBISD brother and sister team earn Gold Medals

Howard Fields & Summor Fields

A Fort Bend ISD brother and sister team is making quite a name for themselves in track and field. Howard Fields, a sixth grader at Lake Olympia Middle School, and Summor Fields, a Hightower High School ninth grade student, each broke national records in the Amateur Athlete Union (AAU) Indoor Junior Olympic National Championship, held at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.

In indoor track and field, Howard earned a gold medal by breaking the national record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.2 and also in the 200-meter race with a time of 26.3. Summor also earned a gold medal in the 4×4-meter relay race as she and her team finished with a time of 3.59. Summor also received a bronze medal after placing 3rd in the nation in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Howard and Summor also competed at the AAU Outdoor Junior Olympic National Championship Meet at Norfold State University in Virginia and earned medals.

Howard earned two gold medals after setting new records in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.2 and in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:17. Summer earned a silver medal and placed second in the nation in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 56.8. She also led the 4X4 relay team in setting a new record and taking the gold.
