Richmond resident to perform the National Anthem June 23
Seventeen finalists have been selected to perform the National Anthem during the 2011 NCAA Men’s College World Series, which begins on June 18 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. “Judges selected the finalists during live auditions held at the stadium on May 7,” according to Katie Karmazin, National Anthem coordinator. “Performers included musicians and singers ranging in age from pre-teen to Baby Boomers and from as far away as Richmond, Texas, and Lexington, Kentucky.”
The College World Series of Omaha Inc., began holding formal auditions in 1995, due to the growing interest in singing the National Anthem that has accompanied the Series’ rising popularity. Forty contestants were selected to audition for the opportunity to perform before an average of more than 20,000 people who typically attend each College World Series game.
Mary Sarah from Fort Bend County, a Richmond resident, was among those finalists chosen to perform at this year’s 2011 NCAA Men’s College World Series. She will perform on Thursday, June 23, at 6:00 p.m.
