In their usual show of compassion for their fellow citizens, students at Scanlan Oaks Elementary School raised more than $17,800 to support the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. The students collected donations and pledges for the campaign, then completed various physical activities (such as the limbo, solo rope jumping, and ladder rope jumping) to support the cause.

“The event took on a new meaning for our Scanlan Oaks family this year,” said Christie Biggers, P.E. Teacher. “Not only were we supporting the American Heart Association, but we were supporting someone we all admire and adore, third grader, Wesley Dunn.”

Wesley serves as the school’s heart ambassador, having undergone his first heart surgery at the age of seven and another one this past March. Wesley was the main reason behind the school’s success in the campaign this year.

Last year, Scanlan Oaks was among the 2009-2010 National Top 100 Jump Rope for Heart Schools, raising a total of $21,330. The official totals have not been released, but Scanlan Oaks is expecting good results again this year.
