H-GAC to kick start Commute Solutions month
The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC)l kicked off a month dedicated to encouraging local commuters to try alternative methods of transportation.
August is “Commute Solutions” month, and this year’s focus includes challenging management districts, areas with high concentrations of workers and commuters, to become part of the solution to help clean the Houston-Galveston region’s air. H-GAC is asking management districts to more proactively encourage employers and tenants within the districts to try a commute alternative in August and beyond. Representatives from more than 15 management districts will accept the challenge by signing commitments at the kickoff press conference.
Since solving transportation issues is everyone’s challenge, all commuters are encouraged to participate in Commute Solutions month by going to www.MySolutionIs.com and taking the “My Solution Is…” pledge to try a commute alternative at least once during the month. Solutions range from committing to take a bus or rail one day a week, teleworking from home, riding a bike to work, or sharing a ride with fellow employees using STAR Vanpool and NuRide.
H-GAC will celebrate the conclusion of Commute Solutions month on Aug. 30 at the Hilton Americas with its 2011 Clean Air Action “Best in Motion” Leadership Awards Luncheon. recognized for providing commute alternatives to employees and for their commitment to improving Houston’s air quality.
