Sugar Land’s Imperial Park Rec Center open for business

Sugar Land, TX – The City of Sugar Land has scheduled a grand opening of the Imperial Park Recreation Center, 234 Matlage Way, for the community on Saturday, July 30, from noon to 4 p.m.

Activities and entertainment have been planned to preview many of the services offered at the center. Designed to create a “recreation
campus atmosphere” for all ages, the 17,000-square-foot facility, located next to the City’s Community Center and Senior Center,
includes a full gymnasium, an exercise room, two multipurpose rooms, a kitchen and a patio/garden area.

Interactive demonstrations, healthy refreshments, video game tournaments, carnival games, trampoline bungee jumping and facility
tours are just a few of the activities planned for residents and the surrounding community during the grand opening. Groups such as the
American Society of Karate, Fort Bend Fencing Academy, Jenny’s Taekwondo, Victory Visions Solution and Baby Boot Camp will provide
fitness and exercise demonstrations showcasing a variety of classes offered at the new facility.

Health check screenings hosted by HEB, Weightlogix and Shape Up Sugar Land health experts will provide information on body age, weight and blood pressure.

Also attending the event will be the Houston Rockets Power Dancers and former Houston Rocket Larry Micheaux, former Rockets player, who will be available for commemorative photos and autographs.

The Acrodunk team of Houston will perform a 30-minute acrobatic dunk show after Mayor James Thompson officially welcomes the community to the City’s first recreation center.

The public is also invited to attend the Say Cheese After Party beginning at 5 p.m.  It’s a family night event at the Recreation
Center for the community. Activities will include a say cheese photo booth and board games such as Parcheesi. There will also be head-to-head challenges between Sugar Land firefighters and police officers in the gym.

The annual facility usage card rate is $10 for residents and $46 for non-residents; all activities will be free during the grand opening from
noon to 4 p.m. on July 30. Parking is available onsite.
