Artwork of Quail Valley GT Academy Student entered in Global Painting Competition

Stacy Tao, a Quail Valley GT Academy seventh-grade student, participated in the 20th International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment and earned high honors for her painting that portrayed “Life in the Forests,” which was the theme of this year’s contest.

Organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the annual competition invites students to produce and submit original artworks that focus on forests and their impact on the survival and well-being of people across the globe. This year’s competition welcomed entries from 1,636 students representing 21 U.S. states and six Canadian provinces. Of all the entries, Stacy’s painting was selected as one of the top 50 to be featured in an exhibit at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, Canada, site of North America’s 2011 World Environment Day celebrations. The exhibit will be open to the public through August 31, 2011.

Stacy’s artwork will also be entered in the UNEP Global Painting Competition. Winners will be announced at UNEP’s Tunza International Children and Youth Conference on the Environment, which will be held on September 26-30 in Indonesia.

Stacy is a student of Carl Stockman’s, art teacher at the Quail Valley GT Academy. To view Stacy’s painting and the entire exhibit, visit the UNEP website at www.rona.unep.org/about_unep_rona/activities/2011ICPCExhibit.html.
