Fort Bend Symphony schedules auditions

Plan to be part of the 20th anniversary

Shown are: Henry Watts (cello), Bethany Hildebrandt (French horn), Liesl Schindler (bassoon), Matt Tolman (trombone) and Jami Thomson (oboe).

If you love music and enjoy playing with others in a fun, relaxed setting, then the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra may be just the place for you. The orchestra is currently accepting audition applicants for its 20th anniversary season and is particularly in need of additional string players

Auditions will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 3900 Lexington Blvd., in Missouri City. Candidates should prepare a three- to five-minute solo and be ready to demonstrate their sight-reading skills. Auditions are open to all musicians who are high school age and older.

In addition to violin, viola, cello, and bass players, FBSO has immediate openings for English horn, contrabassoon, tympani and percussion players. Both permanent and alternate positions are available with all musicians serving as unpaid volunteers.

To schedule an appointment time, please e-mail or call 281-276-9642.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m., generally at First United Methodist Church in Missouri City. This year, FBSO will play four concerts at the Stafford Centre as part of its season subscription series and a free concert at Sugar Land Town Square.
