Game of the Week Ft Bend Austin vs Cy Ranch

By Sean Wolfson

The mighty Austin Bulldog football boys and coaches took to the field last Friday evening against Cy Ranch. High hopes for a major turnaround season were in the minds and hearts of the Bulldog faithful as the team busted out of the tunnel like a team on a mission.

Although they came up a bit on the short end this time, the improvement is definitely there and they should be proud of their efforts.

Cy Ranch would strike pay turf first with a 4 yard run with 7:17 left in the 1st quarter. Hennings’ point after was good, and Cy Ranch had an early 7-0 lead. The bulldogs Senior QB and leader Taylor Woods wouldn’t let an early setback get him discouraged. A few minutes later, Woods found wide receiver Jordan Briggs on a crossing pattern in the middle of the Cy Ranch defense and Briggs turned on the after burners. He literally left every player to eat his dust as he went for a TD to tie the game at 7. Cy Ranch would score once more before the half, on a 5 yd run.

To open the 2nd half, Ranch took the opening kickoff 73 yards for a back breaking TD. Ranch 21- Austin 7. Woods and the Bulldog offense would again respond behind great blocking from the O-line. Woods ran it himself from the 1 yard line for a TD to make it a 7 point lead by Ranch.

In the 4th period, Ranch would score with 11:54 left on a 7 yard passing strike. Not to be outdone, the dawgs would fight back and Woods would run it in again from a yard out to bring the score to 28-21. It was too late however as Ranch controlled the ball and scored again with 37 seconds left. Final score Cy Ranch 34 AUSTIN 21.

FBISD football teams as a whole got throttled last weekend. We went 2-8 vs the competition. Dulles did win their game however. Congrats to the Vikings.

Until next week, good golf, good tennis, or whatever makes ya’ happy.
