Wouldn’t it be nice to spend a leisurely Saturday this fall walking through a leafy historic neighborhood, while learning a little bit about Sugar Land history? Join the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation as they present a monthly Heritage Hike each second Saturday of the month. The first Heritage Hike is set for Saturday, October 8, 2011, and the SLHF has planned lots of fun activities from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., to kick off this new series.

All the activity will take place at 198 Kempner Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. Come walk through the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation offices and browse the Sugar Land History exhibit; Sugar Land firefighters will be on site with a restored 1919 Model T fire truck; there will be special activities for children; and there will even be a raffle for great prizes! A Heritage Hike lasts approximately one hour and a half and winds through old downtown Sugar Land and the historic Hill neighborhood. The guided tours start every half-hour beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the last group leaving at 12:30 p.m.

The Heritage Hike is free for children under 12, and just $10 for adults and $5 for teens (12 and up). In the event the October 8 Hike is rained-out, an alternate date has been reserved for the following Saturday, October 15.

“Whether you’re interested in historic architecture or are just looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday with friends and family, you won’t want to miss this unique event!
