Missouri City to hold 9/11 Commemorative Salutes

Let's not forget - shown are the colors we live by and hold in the highest honor.

Uniting with Americans nationwide, Missouri City will host two solemn ceremonies commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The first will be Sunday, Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m. on Protector’s Plaza at Public Safety Headquarters, 3849 Cartwright Rd. Residents will join City Council, local elected officials, Fire Chief Russell Sander, Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald and staff to honor about 3,000 victims who perished during the tragedy. The ceremony will feature the reading of a City proclamation and a 21-gun salute in memoriam to those who died when terrorists hijacked four U.S. planes. Two were crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center in New York City; a third into a Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. and heroic passengers and crew took control of the fourth aircraft, sacrificing their lives and preventing an attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In a separate community memorial later that Sunday, the VFW Post 4010 & Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Motorcycle Group Unit 1 will host a tribute at 2 p.m. at VFW Post 4010, 2200 Staffordshire, Missouri City. The organizations will salute firefighters, police officers and military personnel who sacrifice their lives to protect the nation and recognize first responders and military personnel who have selflessly defended the country since 9/11 in the War on Terror.

The Dulles High School JROTC will give the Presentation of Colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer will be said, a City Proclamation will be read and Missouri City public safety officials, veterans, community leaders and groups will attend the event. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and other refreshments can be purchased. For more information, please call 281-499-3041.
