Saturday morning, September 10, you can make a difference in the lives of high school students by volunteering only 2 to 3 hours of your time. Destination Graduation Dropout Recovery Walks will be held at Willowridge High School and Hightower High School in Fort Bend ISD, B. F. Terry High School, Foster High School, Lamar Consolidated High School and George Ranch High School in Lamar CISD and at Stafford High School in Stafford MSD. The Dropout Recovery Walks are a county-wide effort to bring students who have dropped out for various reasons back to their campuses. Graduation is the goal as a high school diploma can not only provide more options and opportunities, but over 50% more lifetime income as well, according to the U. S. Census Bureau.

Community volunteers will join school personnel to make visits to the homes of students designated by the schools to let them know that they are missed as well as sharing information about what is needed for the individual student to graduate. Volunteers and school personnel making these calls together demonstrate to the students that the entire community cares about them and wants them to succeed.

ACHIEVE Fort Bend County is a county-wide collaboration of business, community and education leaders committed to dropout prevention and recovery. ACHIEVE recognizes that no one entity can solve increasing dropout rates alone, so encourages all Fort Bend County residents to participate in the Dropout Recovery Walks. The participation of the entire community is required to ensure that all Fort Bend County students have an equal opportunity to succeed in school and in adult life.
