Police service call in Stafford Run neighborhood ends in tragedy
By LeaAnne Klentzman
Monday evening, about 6:30 pm., a Stafford patrol officer was sent to a home on War Admiral to deal with an animal problem. When the officer went to the front door he was met by Ryan Strom, a 22 year old resident of the home. While talkinag at the door the officer asked the young man for his identification. As departmental procedure dictates, the officer checked the young man for outstanding warrants.
When the officer realized that Strom had a warrant out for his arrest, he asked him to step outside. Strom pulled a gun. The officer, mindful that Strom’s mother and teenage sister were in harms way, took evasive action.
Strom bolted from the house and began jumping fences. As a result of the unfolding incident, homes were evacuated and police cordoned off the neighborhood; checking door to door and yard to yard. Less than two hours later police heard a gun shot. Ryan Strom was found dead in a backyard three doors down from his home. He died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. That same bullet also destroyed that neighbor’s air conditioning system.
