The Woman’s Club of Missouri City in full bloom
The September meeting of the Woman’s Club of Missouri City met at the home of newly elected president Jo Butterfield. She enthusiastically presented the club’s agenda for the 2011-2012 calendar year. “The Woman’s Club of Missouri City is blooming!” exclaimed Jo. “We have such a great year planned—socials, informative programs and philanthropy!”
The October meeting was a flower arranging demonstration presented by the florist at HEB and was held at the HEB Community Room. In November, the members and guests enjoyed , “A Magical, Mystical Evening”, and were entertained by magician Robert Berry. The December gathering is going to be a Christmas luncheon at Aura, and the program will be presented by Missouri City Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald. Holiday toys for the Bethel Ministry on Fifth Street will be collected as well as blankets for Home Instead Senior Care. In January Mayor Owen will present a report on the “State of the City.”.
In October, our members joined with the Elkins Habitat Club and Christ United Methodist Church in a Habitat project. The ladies prepared a lasagna and salad lunch for the workers, and they enjoyed serving this group as well as other schools and churches. This food just kept multiplying! The DeWalt Heritage Center (Dew House), Elkins Habitat Club, the Missouri City Library, and the Sienna Library were recipients of the club’s monetary contributions in May 2011.
This year, the Woman’s Club of Missouri City will again award scholarships to seniors in addition to other charities. ~ by Jane Owen.
