Clara Jean Astorina Fitzpatrick, July 6, 1917- November 28, 2011 of Kingwood, TX
Our beloved mother, whose maiden name means clear bright little star, now shines in heaven. She was born to Chiarra and Antonio Astorina in Slovan, PA. Clara brought joy and inspiration to others throughout a life dedicated to education. She graduated from Union High School in Burgettstown, PA, California State Teachers College in California, PA, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. On August 29, 1945 she married the love of her life, James B. Fitzpatrick, in Miami Beach, FL after a whirlwind courtship. They made their home and raised four beautiful and loving daughters in Wausau, WI. She taught eighth-grade English for over 20 years and finished her career as librarian at D.C. Everest Junior High School, Scholfield, WI. She especially enjoyed coaching and judging the forensic speech program. Clara also was active in St Mary’s Catholic Women’s club, Wisconsin Librarian Association, and prepared taxes for the elderly. After retirement she and Jim moved to Kingwood, TX to enjoy their grandchildren. There she was active in Heartbeat Bears, Hi Neighbor and St. Martha’s bridge club.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim of 54 years. She is survived by her brother Dominic Astorina of Washington. PA and her daughters Jane (Neal) Fagan of Kingwood, Colleen (Stephen) Sylvester of Richmond, VA, Maureen (Robert) Pfrank of Arlington Heights, IL, and Mary Ellen (Gary) Teletzke of Sugar Land, TX; grandchildren Brett (Jill) and Brian (Michaela) Fagan of Austin, TX, Erin Sylvester (Michael) Mellen of Vienna, VA and James Sylvester of Pasadena, CA, Breanne Pfrank (Rodger) True of Crystal Lake, IL and Robert Pfrank of Chicago, IL, Eric Teletzke of Houston, TX and Allison Teletzke of Bethlehem, PA; and great-grandchildren Connor and Caleb Fagan, Patrik and Adrian Fagan, Christopher Mellen, Emme Sylvester, and Kaghan and Avilyn True.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Kingwood, TX. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr.
