St. Laurence 5th grade students serve others

SLCS students and teacher giving a check to Assumption Catholic School.

St. Laurence  5th grade students participated in a Read-A-Thon, where they earned donations for the number of hours they read. They chose to adopt Assumption Catholic School, located in Houston, to be the recipient of the proceeds from their efforts.

The students raised enough funds to purchase individual white boards, erasers, and markers for the entire student body at Assumption. They also donated pencil boxes for the PreK and Kindergarten students and each student at Assumption that came to our campus for the closing celebration was treated to lunch, picked out a book for themselves, and  participated in a Skype author visit with author, Roald Dahl.

This project was a gift not only to Assumption Catholic School but to our students as well as they made new friends and could see the impact the gifts made on the visiting students and teachers!  It was an opportunity four our students to truly see and understand, that those for whom much is given, much is expected.
