Annual Austin HS Varsity-Alumni men’s soccer scrimmage held

The AHS Team and Alumni in a moment of silence for Jamie Chapman.

Austin High School held their annual Varsity-Alumni men’s soccer scrimmage on Friday January 6. This year’s match was dedicated to Jamie Chapman, a 2009 AHS graduate and former Varsity soccer player. Jamie was involved in a terrible car accident on Nov. 24th and remains hospitalized with severe brain injuries. Colin Chapman, his brother, (class of 2004) opened the match with a message about the accident and Jamie’s battle back to health. Colin’s message was followed by a moment of silence in prayer. The gathering was a solemn reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving, a message the Chapman Family willingly shares with others.

At the end of the match, AHS Varsity Soccer Coach, Thomas Byrd, presented the Chapman family with a #3 Jersey signed by Jamie’s former teammates and other AHS alumni soccer players. Jamie Chapman wore #3 while playing for AHS. The Alumni won the game 4-1.
