Illegal plants found in Waterview Estates

By LeaAnne Klentzman

Residents in Waterview Estates now have a new concept for “pot plants” in their neighborhood.

A two month investigation into a marijuana growing operation in north central Fort Bend County has led to the arrest of one man. Tho Nguyen, 32, was arrested at the residence in the 5000 block of Beech Fern Drive in the Waterview subdivision by federal, state and local narcotics agents.

The growing operation was described as a sophisticated setup of lights and marijuana plants that covered five rooms of the home. Bob Haenel, spokesman for the sheriff, said agents removed 587 marijuana plants from inside the home along with indoor growing lights, scales, water pumps, fans, power inverters and assorted equipment used for manufacturing, packaging, and selling marijuana.

This grow house containing 587 illegal marijuana plants was busted by authorities.

Haenel said the pants were discovered after the execution of a search warrant on January 9, 2012. Also discovered during that search was $91,941 in U.S. currency which was seized under Chapter 59 by the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office.

Nguyen was charged with Possession of Marijuana (greater than 5 pounds, under 50 pounds). His bond was set at $15,000 which he posted and left jail.
