Today, Stafford Elementary School is hosting the District 24-3A Zone A U.I.L. A+ Academics Contest! Five hundred students in grades 2nd – 8th and 250 adults are expected. Competitions include Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Number Sense, Chess Puzzle Solving, Creative Writing, Editorial Writing, Ready Writing, Dictionary Skills, Listening Skills, Spelling, Music Memory, Art, Social Studies, and Map, Charts, and Graphs. Students in grades PreK-6th (Primary, Elementary, and Intermediate) were on an Early Release schedule today to accommodate the event. Go Spartans!
The Houston football chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials named the Stafford High School Football Team as the winner of its Class 3A/Private Schools Division 2012 Sportsmanship Award for the 2011 football season! The announcement was made on Wednesday January 25th before a large crowd attending the Touchdown Club luncheon at the J.W. Marriott located in Houston. Stafford High School was one of five finalists selected for consideration of the award and were chosen by football referees who judged the teams on the actions of the coach, the actions of the team, the actions of the support groups (such as band, drill team, parents) and respect for the American flag. Other finalists considered for the award were Houston Christian, Lutheran South, Saint Thomas, and West Columbia. Go Spartans!
Twenty-two Stafford High School DECA students have advanced to state competition!
Stafford Choirs and students from all campuses will be performing the hit stage musical production of Grease next Friday and Saturday at the Stafford Centre on Cash Road! Performance times are 7:30 pm on Feb. 3rd and 7:00 pm on Feb. 4th. Ticket prices range from $10 to $25 and are available online at www.staffordcentre.com or by calling 281-208-6900. Stafford Grad (Class of 2003) Jesus Sifuentes recently competed in the Houston Marathon and qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2013 with a time of 02:57.49! Jesus is a past three-time champion of the Gobble Hobble 5K Run. Go Spartan Alumni!
The SHS Science Club is partnering with Fort Bend Regional Council and Tobacco Free Fort Bend to form a Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) Coalition program on campus. Select science club members will be trained on February 1-2 to present this critical information to other younger groups around the area. Go Spartans!
Last weekend Chandler Rasberry’s cheerleading team – Y2K – competed in the Wild West Cash Bash Mini National Championship and won! Chandler is a fifth grader at Stafford Intermediate School and the daughter of Assistant Superintendent Marva Rasberry. Y2K moves on to compete in Atlanta GA. Go Spartans!
The Father-Daughter Dance for young ladies in Pre-K through 6th grade is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm in the Stafford Intermediate School Gym. The event is a popular fundraiser for the Stafford High School Band Boosters. A flyer is attached.
The SHS Auto-Tech program will host its annual Car Show on Saturday, April 14th. The event provides students with an opportunity to meet car enthusiasts in the area, show off their own vehicles, and raise funds for scholarships.
The Middle School Staff will be participating in a Chili Cook-off on Friday, February 24th.
The neighborhood Tax Center is offering free quality tax preparation by IRS-certified tax preparers. The Stafford United Way Building is one of their 16 locations opening this month around Greater Houston.
