Youth baseball icon passes away

By Sean Wolfson

Sugar Land baseball icon Ray Hammond, 41, passed away early Sunday morning surrounded by family.

Ray was very instrumental in the development of baseball players in this area at the youth level. He helped numerous players receive scholarships to play high school baseball.

Ray was a family man of quality character and was highly respected by coaches, players, parents, league personnel, and umpires. Ray will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on through all who knew him.

I am a witness to his strong character and quick wit. Rest in peace Ray-Ray.
