911 Provider asks why are they not paid fairly
Dear Editor,
People do not realize what we do for a living. Most think that we just ride around on the fire truck or ambulance all day, then maybe go pick up old grandma off the floor because she fell.
A rare few really see the true life of what we do; from invasive medical procedures to entering a building pitch black due to smoke, and searching blindly for a child.
The physical, mental, and emotional stress, that we are subjected to everyday is what no one sees. And, with all this stress I feel we are not even paid well enough. If you’re in this business you’re not doing it for the money, then what I don’t understand is why we are not paid better?
We are called upon in the worst situations and expected to mitigate them, however we have to live check to check just to support our families (adding to our stress).
This is why divorce and heart attacks are so prevalent with 911 providers, especially paramedics and fire fighters.
I just believe that this is an unturned rock that deserves a story in your paper to let the people know what it’s truly like to be a fire fighter or a paramedic.
Sincerely,
