FBJSL Awards $5,000 Grant to SIRE and $2,500 Grant to Alzheimer’s

Shown l-r are: Devline, Site Director/Instructor for SIRE; and FBJSL members Tanya Pal and Susan Bakus.

The Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) was pleased to award a $5,000 Community Assistance Fund (CAF) Grant to SIRE and a $2,500 CAF Grant to Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter.

SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers, provides therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, developmental delays, spinal cord injuries, and various other disabilities.  FBJSL’s funding will go towards SIRE’s Keeping Riders in Their Saddles (KRITS) program, which enables them to reduce tuition costs to all of their riders.

The Alzheimer’s Association will use FBJSL’s funding to expand their Community and Professional Education Programs throughout Fort Bend County.  These programs are designed to offer Alzheimer’s disease education as well as resources and socialization opportunities to current caregivers and the public. The Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter provides support for affected families through dementia-specific programs and services, creates awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, promotes good brain health and offers these services to all in need of assistance.

FBJSL accepts CAF applications throughout the year for grant funding up to $5,000 per year.  Applicants must be nonprofit organizations serving Fort Bend County with requests to fund a critical need, pilot program and/or expand a significant service to the community.  For additional eligibility requirements and to download applications, please visit www.fbjsl.com.
