March is designated National School Social Worker Month in recognition of the many contributions of these professionals to our students and staff. Fort Bend ISD is proud to join school districts throughout the nation in saluting its social workers. The District currently has 14 social workers; six assigned to the Student Support Services Department and eight to the Special Programs Department’s Title I division.

Some of the many services provided by the Student Support Services social workers include: consultations with school staff, individual student counseling, crisis intervention, interagency coordination, as well as after-school tutorials and other campus-based student enrichment projects. District social workers also facilitate the Truancy Diversion Program and work with partners to provide resources for shelter, food, and outside health care services to students and their family members.

The Title I Social Workers provide supplemental social work services on the 23 Fort Bend ISD Title I campuses. They develop various programs that focus on parental support and guidance in the learning processes of students. They work collaboratively with the Parent Resource Center coordinators to promote positive family engagement and community support. They also work diligently on their campuses to help improve student attendance rates, grades and behavior.

FBISD social workers have been present in the District for the past 20 years. Veterans Linda Coleman, Connie Lee-Sims, Monica Meade and Sandra Thomas helped form the original team in 1992.
