Stafford Wants You…to use the Parent Portal
By Karen Daniels
Stafford MSD invites all parents to register on the Parent Portal this spring in an attempt to reach 100% participation. For those who are unfamiliar, the Parent Portal is a tool that allows you instant, online access to your child’s education, such as attendance detail, discipline, progress, and grades. You can even customize the account to notify you if a grade number drops below a certain number, for example, anything below 80, and you’ll receive an email alert. The Parent Portal also provides you with your child’s teacher’s email, phone number and conference times, making it easier to contact them directly. Here’s how to get started.
For the purpose of protection and confidentiality, each parent or guardian must make one in-person visit to the school. You will then be given a Portal ID number that you will only use once, but this will allow you to set up your user name and a password, which will be used from that point on. Don’t have internet access? No problem. Go to any Fort Bend public library or Stafford school library and use their computers. Have more than one child? No problem. Children part of the same family can be on the same account. And if English is your second language, there’s a tab to switch to Spanish. The web pages are user friendly and easy to navigate. All you need is your child’s date of birth and a photo ID card.
What’s great about the Parent Portal is that it helps you identify earlier if your child might be struggling with a certain subject or gives you reassurance that your child is doing well. You don’t have to set it up annually, this account is yours until your child withdraws or graduates from Stafford MSD.
Stop by your child’s school today to register or call the school district at 281-261-9200 if you have more questions.
