Southminister School excels at speech meet

Four students earned superior rating

Shown are the students with teacher Pat Simon.

In a speech competition that drew more than 190 students who won local qualifiers, the four entrants from Southminster School all were medalists and earned superior ratings.

Fourth-graders Annika Overstreet and Jasmine Wright won gold medals in poetry and fable/folklore, respectively.

Third-grader Dylan Thomas was silver medalist in poetry for his division, and Ryan Michlewicz earned silver in fourth-grade Bible verse.

“We are so proud of these students,” said Southminster teacher Pat Simon, who led the speech team.  “They worked very hard on their entries, and that work was recognized by the judges.”

The competition was officiated by the South-Central Region of the Association of Christian Schools, which oversees six states and coordinates a variety of activities for its member schools. The event was held March 2 at Pecan Street Christian Academy in Channelview.
