Art making a difference

SMS Students with samples of items that will be on sale.

Fort Bend ISD Sartartia Middle School Art Department has raised over $12,000.00 in the past 8 years with the sale of art and functional folk art. The focus is on the value of recycling in a world of throw away items. Through these art projects, the students use problem solving skills to rework and reuse: a valuable resource for the students to learn.

The art show – “Art from the Heart” will be held on April 21st from 12:00 (noon) – 3:00 pm at City Hall in Sugar Land Town Center features student paintings and ceramics and face painting. Proceeds from this year event will be donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity in conjunction with Empty Bowls

Mrs. Brenda Tomasello (Art teacher at SMS) said “Our students are so giving and so proud to help with the needs of our community. With our yearly sales we have seen a great sense of pride in the art they create and they are proud that they have helped someone in need. The Empty Bowl project was the one that really hit home, so we have modified it some to include various clay pieces and matted art works.” Mrs. Tomasello and Ms. Courtney Border will be present at the art sale to answer any questions.
