Grow house busted on Crime Stoppers Tip

By LeaAnne Klentzman

A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of four men in connections to a marijuana grow house southwest Fort Bend County.

According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel, narcotics deputies for the sheriff have been investigating a purported indoor marijuana growing operation. That investigation has centered around a home in the Canyon Gate at the Brazos subdivision located in the 5400 block Carta Valley Lane. A neighborhood just south of US 59 and west of Crabb River Road.

Haenel said based on the information provided by the Crime Stoppers tip and information developed during the ensuing investigation deputies were able to get a search warrant for the Carta Valley Lane home. The search warrant was executed about 7 a.m. last Friday, March 29. Haenel said once inside the residence officers discovered a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow operation.

They recovered 217 marijuana plants totaling 81 pounds. Officers also recovered indoor growing lights, scales, water pumps, fans, invertors and assorted equipment used in the manufacturing, packaging, and selling of marijuana. Haenel said, “This type of manufactured marijuana being produced has a high level of THC (∆9—tetrahydrocannabinol), thus making the price of this marijuana very expensive. This seizure has a street value of $325,000.”

The four men arrested at the scene have been identified as Clay Stephen Wilson, 32; Sammy David Ingle, 36; Andrew Williams Gomez, 22; and James Harry Gates, 28. All four live in Harris County. They have all been charged with Possession of Marijuana; more 50 pounds and less than 2,000 pounds, a second degree felony. Gates was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Bond for each man was set at $40,000. Gates faced another bond of $750 for his misdemeanor charge.

All posted bond and were out of jail by Saturday.
