At their April 2 meeting, Missouri City Council Members proclaimed April “Autism Awareness Month” in the city to increase understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Autism is a complex developmental disability that causes individuals to have issues with social interaction and communication. Symptoms usually start before age 3 and can cause delays or problems in many different skills that develop from infancy to adulthood.
Darla Farmer, President of Hope for Three, accepted the proclamation. She founded the Fort Bend-based nonprofit organization to raise awareness and provide educational and financial support to families with children diagnosed with ASDs.
