Frost elementary sweeps top three spots in essay contest
Three students at Frost Elementary were the top three finishers in the Irma Hogg Chapter of the Daughters of the Texas Republic’s annual essay contest.
Parker Wolny finished first, earning $25. Madison Howell was second, earning $15 and Sydney Richer was third, taking home $10.
All the students are in Pam McLean’s fourth grade class at Frost and take part in the Gifted and Talented program at Frost, under Leann Imrie.
Students could write about either Bigfoot Wallace (an early Texas Ranger), or Susanna Dickinson, Survivor of the Alamo.
Wolny’s essay on Bigfoot Wallace will now advance to state competition, where he has a chance at $300 and the opportunity to read his essay at the annual convention of the Daughters of the Texas Republic.
