He states that the UCRS is not to be taken into consideration because the "FBI strongly warns against using the statistics for comparisions between agencies" (www.bradyforsheriff.com, 2012). However, this opinion can be argued because DPS clearly states that the objective of the UCRS is “to produce reliable crime statistics for law enforcement administration, operation, and management” (Crime In Texas, 2010, p 3). This qoutation is actually from the first sentence of the data collection's purpose statement... Furthermore, DPS states that 1,052 agencies voluntarily submit statistics monthly. Upon receiving these statistics they are "...examined for accuracy and reasonableness through the use of numerous cross-checking procedures. While minor errors are corrected by the UCR report verifiers, unusual variations are brought to the attention of the submitting agency by direct contact of a UCR field representative." (Crime In Texas, 2010, p4). There are also 6 full time field representatives that the SO could have contacted (or vice versa) if any there were any errors noted. So, why then has DPS not released any statement or placed any caveat stating what Brady has submitted? (supposively) Why should I just trust one of Brady's charts that he has posted up on his website that has no reference? I have no way of verifying that what he states as "truth". This race will be in a runoff anyhow because it is hard to get a majority win with 4 folks in the mix.
