Annual Varsity-Alumni Soccer Scrimmage honors Jamie Chapman

The Austin High School team and alumni during a moment of silence.

Austin High School held its annual Varsity-Alumni men’s soccer scrimmage, which was dedicated this year to Jamie Chapman, a 2009 Austin graduate and former Varsity soccer player.

Jamie was involved in a terrible car accident on November 24, and remains hospitalized with severe brain injuries. Jamie’s brother, Colin Chapman (Class of 2004) opened the match with remarks regarding the accident and Jamie’s battle back to health. Colin’s message was followed by a moment of silence. The gathering was a solemn reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving, a message the Chapman family freely shares with others.

At the end of the match, which was won by the alumni (4-1), AHS Varsity Soccer Coach, Thomas Byrd, presented the Chapman family with a #3 Jersey signed by Jamie’s former teammates and other AHS alumni soccer players. Jamie wore #3 while playing for AHS.
