FBISD selected as one of the 2012 Best Communities for Music Education
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has selected Fort Bend ISD as one of the 2012 Best Communities for Music Education. FBISD is among only 12 Texas school districts and 176 music communities in the nation to receive the distinct honor.
The announcement comes in anticipation of NAMM’s National Wanna Play Music Week, May 7-13, a week-long promotion designed to encourage people of all ages and skill levels to experience the proven benefits and fun of playing music.
The 176 honorees were among 237 music communities to participate in the 13th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey, which recognizes schools and districts across the nation for their commitment and support for music education as part of the core curriculum. Each school receiving the “Best Communities” designation scored in the 80th percentile or higher in the survey’s grading process. Participants in the survey answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and other relevant factors in their communities’ music education programs. The responses were verified with district officials and advisory organizations reviewed the data.
“This auspicious designation is the result of the exceptional skills and diligent efforts of our district’s music educators, the generous financial and organizational backing from our administration and school board, and the outstanding support we receive from parents and community members” said James Drew, FBISD Director of Fine Arts.
