First Colony MS raises over $11,000 for American Diabetes Association
When students at First Colony Middle School recently walked the perimeter of the school campus, they had more on their minds then just getting fresh air, they were raising money for the American Diabetes Association.
As part of their participation in the “We Can Stop Diabetes” school walk, First Colony Middle School students collected pledges from friends and family members to benefit the American Diabetes Association in its effort to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of those affected by the disease. These students raised over $11,000 for the association.
According to the American Diabetes Association, 25.8 million adults and children in the United States – 8.3 percent of the population – have diabetes. Several faculty members and students at First Colony Middle School also live with the condition.
The school’s involvement in the national fundraising effort was chaired Physical Education Coach Ian McLean.
