Hightower High School’s HOSA students advance to national competition

Hightower High School’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) members have advanced to the National HOSA competition after earning top awards at the State Championships for the Texas Association of Health Occupation Students of America, held March 28-31. Among the state awards, the students earned 13 gold, three silver and eight bronze medals.

Earning awards were:

• Neerja Aggarwal – gold medal, Biotechnology
• Jonathan Wang, Aakash Jacob, Tariq Mansuri, and Super Patadia – gold medal, Emergency Preparedness
• Jinu Stephen, Carol Baby, Stanley Mathew and Krisen Chatarpal – gold medal, Community Awareness
• Omar Zahid, Josef Alvarez, Mariam Haque, and Dhrumil Patel – gold medal, Creative Problem
• Emily Johnson – silver medal, Medical Spelling
• Gideon Oyokanmi – silver medal, Biotechnology
• Joel Pious – silver medal, Clinical Specialty (He is the third HOSA champion in his family.)
• Talha Munshi – bronze medal, Job Seeking Skills
• Riya Patel – bronze medal, Human Growth and Development
• Shanda McKinney – bronze medal, Epidemiology
• Jaskeerat Gulati – bronze medal, Health Lifestyle
• Saif Merchant, Anita Vasudevan, Liana LoChau, and Jane Zhu – bronze medal, Health Education
• Emily Nabulsi – 4th place, Nutrition
• Azim Ali and Syed Zaidi – 4th place, Emergency Response
• Blaine Berger – 5th place and Top 10% scorer, Current Events Exam
• Vikrant Nallaparaju – 5th place, Extemporaneous Speaking

The Hightower HOSA team will go on to compete at the 33rd National HOSA Leadership Conference and Competition on June 20-24 in Orlando. The team looks forward to adding to the 27 national championship awards they have won over the past seven years.
