Surf’s Up! again at Fairgrounds benefitting Education Foundation
The “fun, fun, fun” of the 11th annual “Surf’s Up, School’s Out” dinner, auction and dance begins May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds.
This event benefits the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (L.E.A.F.) Money from the event and other L.E.A.F. fundraisers throughout the year are used to underwrite educational grants to Lamar CISD teachers.
A chicken-fried steak dinner will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and followed by a live dessert auction at 8:15 p.m.The Triumphs will provide the musical entertainment for the evening, with the dance starting as soon as the dessert auction draws to a close.
“It is fun partying with this bunch,” said Triumphs saxophonist and Lamar Consolidated HS graduate Ron Petersen. “We always look forward to putting on our Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts to perform at Surf’s Up.”
Teresa Gibson, L.E.A.F. board member and dessert auction chair, said the auction has become quite popular with last year’s 15 desserts bringing in a total of $35,511. “So far this year, we have 18 of the area’s top chefs donating desserts to be auctioned off,” she said.
