Scholarships awarded by Fort Bend Optimist Club

Shown are the recipients honored by the Fort Bend Optimist Club at their Annual Appreciation Banquet.

Recently, the Fort Bend Optimist Club Sugar Land, held its Annual – Youth Appreciation Banquet and Scholarship Dinner, at Sweetwater Country Club

There were about 165 people in attendance and 10 scholarships to 10 graduating seniors at local high schools were awarded. Each of the 10 students received a check for $1,000 (payable to themselves and their college) to help them with their expenses the first semester.

Additionally, each student had the opportunity to tell where they were going to college and what they planned to do with their lives.

That same night the Club “honored” two students from each high school for their volunteerism in the community. These students were chosen by their schools. Each of these honorees received a framed certificate from the Ft. Bend Optimist Club in addition to a gift certificate of $50 to a local bookstore.

The students were able to invite their parents to the dinner and also the Principal and Counselor. The entire dinner was paid for by the Ft. Bend Optimist Club.

The Fort Bend Optimist Club has one fund raising event each year and that is their Annual Fun Run held the first Sunday in November each year. This year they celebrate their 30th anniversary and hope to have lots of runners and walkers and of course, sponsors. Only through the generous donations are they able to continue to help the kids of Ft. Bend County.
