Students honored at Austin Parkway Elementary

Shown are Austin Parkway Elementary School student artists and other program participants.

Talented young artists from Austin Parkway Elementary were honored on April 12 at the PTA Reflections Reception and International Dinner. The event welcomed contest artists, along with their families and teachers, for an evening filled with exotic foods representing India and the Middle East, entertainment and a showcase of art.

Taking part in the program were former Austin Parkway Elementary School students Mason Bynes and Tamera and Rachel Coleman. Bynes provided the musical entertainment and the Coleman sisters served as hostesses. All three are Clements High School students. The event also included a slide show presentation of student artwork that was shown throughout the evening.

Marcia Anderson of the Sugar Land School of Fine Art presented the student awards. Receiving awards for mastery of medium and interpretation of the theme: “Diversity Means…” were:

• Christopher Smith, Award of Merit in photography (Diversity Brings Good Fortune)

• Surya Karakada, Award of Excellence in musical composition (Diversity Leads to Harmony), and Award of Merit in literature (Unity in Diversity)

• Vy Nguyen, Award of Excellence in visual arts (The Key to Success). His award also earned recognition from the Texas PTA.

The honorees’ work went on to be judged at the district level competition.
