Republican Party’s computers not hacked

By LeaAnne Klentzman

In a printed release Sheriff Milton Wright said through his spokesperson Bob Haenel, “The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has completed a part of an investigation that the Fort Bend County Republican Party computer system had been breached last year.”

The investigation was the result of a computer crash on October 20, 2011. Bob Haenel said party officials were of the belief that the crash could have been the result of foul play, so they asked for an investigation. “The Sheriff’s Office has conducted several interviews and requested records concerning this matter,” said Sheriff Milton Wright. “After reviewing records from the Internet hosting company, our detectives have determined there is no evidence suggesting any foul play in this incident.”

However, Haenel said that financial aspects brought to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office remain under investigation.
