Sugar Land chooses Ghandi for council
By Betsy Dolan
In Sugar Land, Himesh Ghandi defeated Bill Cathey and Naomi Lam for the City Council At-Large Position 1 seat which is being vacated by Tom Abraham who is term limited. Ghandi, who serves on Sugar Land’s Planning and Zoning Commission, which came under fire for approving 325 apartments in Sugar Land’s historic district, acknowledged that the city needs to ensure that new developments “are of a high quality and in the best interests of the city”.
“Even though I am young and perhaps the youngest council member the city has ever had, I represent a different generation and can bring a different perspective,” Ghandi said. “We need to continue running Sugar Land at the highest possible level.”
He’ll be sworn in on May 22.
