FBISD celebrates Wave 1 Launch of its iACHIEVE Program

Fort Bend ISD celebrated the launch of Wave 1 of its iACHIEVE program on May 14 with a ceremony that welcomed students, teachers, district officials, and business and community supporters. The program was created to support classroom science teaching and instruction in the District using integrated emerging “one-to-one” handheld technology.

Dr. Timothy Jenney, FBISD Superintendent, began the event by thanking the curriculum writers, the teachers and the administrators for their many hours of work thus far on the project and their dedicated support going forward. “On a daily basis, close to 9,000 students in the 14 campuses in grades two through eight will have access to effective science lessons directly aligned to the rigor of Texas standards,” said Jenney. “The students who participate in Wave 1 of iACHIEVE will experience science in an interactive and engaging learning environment using a modality for instruction that meets them where they are as digital natives in a digital generation.”

Featured speakers at the event were Michael Schiff, Managing Partner of Incomar Investments, L.P.; Paula Harris, Director of Community Affairs, Schlumberger and HISD Board Trustee; and Neha Chaudhry, Fluor Control Systems Engineer and graduate of Dulles High School.

Fourteen FBISD schools have been selected to participate in iACHIEVE Wave 1 for the 2012-2013 school year. During the first year of implementation, iACHIEVE will involve more than 9,000 students in grades 2-8 utilizing iPads and iPods to improve their science learning.

The Wave 1 schools include:

• Elementary Schools – Austin Parkway, Barrington Place, Blue Ridge, Colony Meadows, Cornerstone, Fleming, Oyster Creek, Ridgegate, Ridgemont and Seguin

• Middle Schools – Baines, Hodges Bend, Lake Olympia and McAuliffe

During the launch party, the principals from each of the 14 schools received “2012-2013 FBISD iACHIEVE Campus” banners to display in their buildings.
