First Colony Swim Team attends Open Water National Championships
First Colony Swim Team (FCST) was well represented at the 2012 Open Water National Championships in Fort Myers, Florida on April 27th-29th. Daniel Graviss led the group with two top 8 finishes, placing 5th in the 5K and 8th in the 10K. This was a large improvement from last year’s 12th place in the 5K and 43rd place in the 10K. The field included several professional swimmers, World Championship medalists, and 2012 Olympian Alex Meyer. Graviss’ finish in the 5K has placed him on the USA Swimming National Junior Team for the 2012-2013 year. This is FCST’s second swimmer in back to back years who has qualified for the National Junior Team.
Joining Daniel were teammates Corey Duke, Shelby Fruge, and Alicia Finnigan. All three swam the 5K, with Corey placing 21st, Shelby placing 39th, and Alicia placing 50th. In order to qualify for this USA Swimming National Championships, the athletes had to meet a time standard in either the 1000 or 1650 freestyle.
