Foster High student earns summer internship with U.S. Surgeon General’s office
Foster High School’s Stephanie Tsai is among only 10 high school students in the country a HOSA Internship this summer with the United States Office of the Surgeon General in Washington, D.C.
HOSA – Future Health Professionals and the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps selected the HOSA Internship participants for this summer. Tsai’s internship will be August 13-17.
The 2012 OSG-HOSA Internship is designed to give HOSA members the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, refine professional capabilities and increase their awareness of the infrastructure, operations and responsibilities of the OSG and United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.
“The HOSA Internship is a unique opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the HHS, OSG, and the USPHS in a short period of time,” said Jim Koeninger, Ph.D., Executive Director of HOSA.
HOSA interns will shadow OSG staff and take on a project that directly furthers the mission and priorities of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Following the internship, participants will have the opportunity to present their experience during an educational symposium at the 2013 HOSA National Leadership Conference and other venues where HOSA students, advisors and alumni convene.
Tsai finished first in Epidemiology at the Texas State HOSA Conference in 2011, then finished 4th in the nation at the National HOSA Convention.
