In their inaugural year as varsity, the Ridge Point Panthers Softball team ended their season as 2012 Area Champions.
Coach James McClanahan says, “As the first varsity season closed out there were many firsts as one might expect. A 27-9 record is considered by most to be an outstanding season and considering it was done with 2 junior players and a cast of underclassmen speaks volumes of this team’s talent and work ethic.
The Panthers finished 2nd in district 24-4A and as one of the final 32 teams in class 4A in the state. The burden to improve upon that mark awaits the 2013 season. The experience gained in this first season should help as the Panthers will take on an even more challenging schedule next year.
Ridge Point is home of scholars and champions and where excellence is expected. The softball coaches, players, parents, and fans embrace the future challenges and strive to be the best in the state and nation.”
Coach James McClanahan, left Elkins High School and a well established softball program the Fall of 2010 to move over to newly established Ridge Point High School. It was a career move on his part to be a Department Head but also heard there were a little bit of talent coming into Ridge Point’s softball program. McClanahan marked his 400th win on February 23. He ended his season with 423 wins.
